Best drone for filmmaking

When it comes to drones, there's no lack of variety in the marketplace. You have the Mavic 2 Pro, Inspire 2, Spark, Mavic Mini, Parrot Anafi, and many more. The price range can also vary greatly. These days you can go to your local Best Buy store and purchase one for as little as $50, or buy a more professional one online for as much as $5,000. With so many drones to choose from, and various prices, how do you know which one is right for you? Read on to find out.

I'll just get right to it, it all comes down to what you are looking to do, and how much you are looking to spend. There are 3 categories of drone owners: Beginners, Fanatics, and Professionals. You have to decide which one you are. Let's start with Beginners, and see if you fall into this category.

Beginner

A beginner is someone who has never flown a drone before, who doesn't want to spend a lot of money, and is mainly purchasing a drone to fly as a hobby. Perhaps this person saw someone else flying a drone and suddenly developed an interest. There are a few things to consider when choosing the best drone. One important factor is flight performance. How well does the drone fly? Is it easy to control? Another factor to consider is image quality. Does the drone have a good camera? Can it take clear photos and videos? Toy drones may be less expensive, but they usually don't have great cameras. Finally, you'll want to think about how easy the drone is to use. Some drones are very user-friendly, while others can be more challenging. If you're just starting, it's probably best to choose a drone that is relatively easy to fly.

There's a variety of drones available for beginners, but here are the top ones to consider, sorted from most expensive to least expensive:

DJI Mavic Air 2

Few brands are as well-known and respected as DJI when it comes to drones. The Chinese company has been at the forefront of the drone industry for years, and their Mavic Air 2 drone is proof of their dedication to innovation. It is one of the best drones on the market. It has a long battery life and can stay in the air for up to 34 minutes. The drone also features a high-quality 4k camera that can capture stunning footage from any angle at speeds up to 60 frames per second. The video quality is amazing, and its obstacle sensors and intelligent flight modes make it easy to avoid obstacles and get the perfect shot. It's also incredibly portable, folding down to fit into a small backpack or purse, making it a great choice for those who want to be able to take their drone with them wherever they go. Additionally, the Mavic Air 2 is incredibly easy to fly, making it a great choice for anyone who is a beginner.

DJI Mavic Air 2

One of the best things about the Mavic Air 2 is that it comes with a variety of accessories that can help you get the most out of your drone. For example, the Fly More Combo includes an extra battery, charger, and carrying case, making it easy to keep your drone safe and secure while you're on the go. The DJI Goggles RE provide first-person view (FPV) capabilities, allowing you to see exactly what your drone sees as it flies. And the ND Filters Set helps to reduce glare and improve image quality when filming in bright sunlight. With the right accessories, the Mavic Air 2 can be an invaluable tool for capturing amazing aerial footage.

DJI Mini 3 Pro

The DJI Mini 3 Pro is a highly portable drone that is perfect for anyone who wants to take their photography or videography to the next level. With a 3-axis gimbal and 4K camera, the Mini 3 Pro is capable of capturing stunning footage, even in windy or turbulent conditions. The drone is also incredibly easy to fly, thanks to DJI's intuitive flight control system. In addition, the Mini 3 Pro comes with a variety of pre-programmed flight modes that make it easy to capture beautiful shots, even if you're not an experienced pilot. Whether you're looking to capture sweeping landscape shots or intimate close-ups, the DJI Mini 3 Pro is the perfect drone for anyone who wants to take their photography to new heights.

DJI Mini 3 Pro

The DJI Mini 3 Pro offers a significant upgrade over the previous Mini 2 model. The biggest change is the addition of 4K video recording, which was a much-requested feature from users of the older model. The Mini 3 also features an improved flight time of up to 31 minutes, and a new remote control with an integrated display. Other notable upgrades include an upgraded gimbal and camera system, and a new Intelligent Flight Mode that makes it easier to capture stable footage. Overall, the DJI Mini 3 is a significant upgrade over its predecessor and is sure to be a popular choice for drone enthusiasts.

DJI Spark

The DJI Spark drone is another great option for beginners. It has several safety features, many of which are found on larger drones, making it an ideal choice for those new to drone flying. One key safety feature is the Vision Positioning System, which uses a combination of GPS and computer vision to keep track of the Spark's position even when GPS signals are weak or unavailable. The Spark also has built-in obstacle avoidance sensors, just like the other drones do, which can detect obstacles in its path and automatically change course to avoid them. In addition, the drone's propellers are designed to stop automatically if they come into contact with an object, further reducing the risk of injury. Taken together, these safety features make the DJI Spark an ideal choice for those looking to get started in drone flying.

DJI Spark

The camera is one of the most important aspects of a drone. After all, what's the point of flying a drone if you can't take pictures or videos? The Spark drone from DJI is a great option for anyone looking for a high-quality camera drone. It features a 2-axis gimbal and a 12-megapixel camera that is capable of recording 1080p 30fps video. The camera image technology used in the Spark is similar to what you'll find in most drones, but the footage it captures is truly exceptional for the price you are paying. Whether you're taking pictures of your backyard or flying high over a beautiful landscape, the Spark drone camera will help you capture amazing footage that you'll be able to enjoy for years to come. The drone is also relatively affordable, making it a great option for anyone looking to get into drone photography.

Ryze Tello

The Ryze Tello is a drone that is perfect for first-time flyers. It has a maximum flight time of 13 minutes and can record HD videos and photos. The Tello is also equipped with an intelligent flight mode that makes it easy to fly, even for beginners. Plus, the Tello comes with a protective cage that prevents damage to the propellers. So if you're looking for a drone that is easy to fly and can take great videos and photos, the Ryze Tello is a perfect choice. It may not have some of the advanced features of a DJI drone, but you get a lot of bang for your buck, considering its price.

You can't go wrong with any of these drones, it's all about preference. With Mavic Air 2 being the most expensive, it also comes with a lot of options, such as a stabilized camera, obstacle avoidance, and 4K 100Mbps video recording. It's more suited for those with a higher budget, but don't want to pay over $1,000. For those who have a stricter budget, Spark or Mavic Mini may provide the solution to your drone needs. They're not as sophisticated as some of the other drones, as can be seen with shorter flight time and spotty connectivity, but they can be pretty fun to operate. And finally, there's the Ryze Tello, which is more like a nice toy for the kids.

Fanatic

A fanatic is someone who wants to learn more about drones or perhaps is eager to start a business where a drone may be utilized. Previous drone ownership or flying experience is not necessary but recommended. A wedding or real estate videographer would fall in this category. For fanatics, I would only recommend 1 drone, and that is DJI Mavic 3 Pro.

DJI Mavic 3 Pro

The DJI Mavic 3 Pro Drone is one of the best camera drones on the market. It's perfect for aerial photography and is equipped with cutting-edge drone technology, it features a high-quality camera with a 1-inch sensor that can shoot 4K video at up to 60 frames per second. This drone is capable of capturing stunning aerial footage, and it's perfect for tracking shots thanks to its powerful camera. The camera also has an adjustable aperture range of f/2.8-f/11, which allows you to get the perfect shot in any lighting conditions. The Mavic 3 Pro also has an improved Flight Autonomy system that uses dual vision sensors and ultrasonic sensors to provide obstacle avoidance. This makes it easier than ever to avoid obstacles and get the perfect shot. The Mavic 3 Pro also has an impressive range of up to 12 miles and a top speed of 44 miles per hour, making it perfect for capturing aerial footage of fast-moving objects. Overall, the new DJI Mavic 3 Pro camera is a big step up from the previous model and is sure to be a favorite among drone enthusiasts. If you're looking for a camera drone that can take your photography to the next level, the DJI Mavic 3 Pro Drone is a great option.

Professional

Last but not least, a professional is someone who has worked with drones before, most likely as part of their career. Professional filmmakers or drone pilots fall into this category, and it's definitely not for those just starting out. Again, I would only recommend 1 drone for this particular skill level, and that is DJI Inspire 2

DJI Inspire 2

If money is not a concern, this is the best drone you can buy. The DJI Inspire 2 Drone is a top of the line quadcopter that records RAW video at 5.2K, allows for interchangeable cameras, and has a magnesium alloy body. It's used by professional filmmakers everywhere, delivering stunning aerial footage.

DJI Inspire 2

I hope you've enjoyed this review and it's been helpful in your pursuit of filmmaking and finding the right drone for the job.
